In America, one thing keeps growing and growing and that is obesity. Americans keep getting bigger and the bank accounts are dwindling and fast. Obesity is a real problem in America. Obesity-related diseases accounted for nearly ten percent of medical spending in the United States and have spent well over one hundred forty-seven billion dollars a year. Half of that is financed through Medicare and Medicaid. Obese people spend forty percent more than the average person. Obesity leads to a lot of problems now and in the future. There are some health issues: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and having a stroke. It will lead to a shorter life by six to seven years shorter. In fact, eating right isn't always easy, even for people who have the resources. Studies showed that not every part of the country has access to healthy food like fruits and vegetables. In these parts or anywhere people tend to gravitate to cheaper and fast food. Obesity cannot be dismissed as it is becoming more relevant in our life. About twenty-five million kids nearly one and three young people are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. If trends continue, today children will be the first generation of living shorter than their parents. About seventy percent become overweight adults, leading to increase in cardiovascular disease. This is Americans number one killer. In School William J. Clinton foundation made a commitment to cut calories in schools across the nation. By working with the food and drink industry they started getting better quality. This includes reducing the portion sizes and improving the nutrient content. Seventy-nine percent of the U.S schools have compliant contracts with bottles that follow the Alliance
