The levels of obesity are growing each year and many health experts have come to the conclusion that the levels of sugar and cholesterol in our supermarkets are the cause. It has been proven by a research project conducted at UC San Francisco that 80% of food items in U.S. grocery stores are spiked with added sugar. Many products are decorated with eye-catching advertising and attractive claims when in reality they are hiding copious amounts of sugar. Many researchers believe that the reason the risk of diabetes is increasing is because of the ever increasing amount of sugar available all over the world. They identified that high sugar levels in a population 's food supply was linked to a high diabetes rate. Eating excessive amounts of sugar will most likely lead to obesity and obesity is an extremely popular problem. Obesity is the main cause of type two diabetes and is well known for causing lots of problems and complications. An interview with a certified nurse proved that diabetes is a serious problem and actions need to be taken to prevent it. “Diabetes is a problem for the person who has it because it causes drastic lifestyle changes and many serious long term health problems in most body systems from having high or unstable blood sugars.” She quoted. “It’s a problem in our community because a lot of people have it and many are obese from bad eating habits or sedentary lifestyles. They then get diabetes as a result along with other diseases such as heart disease.” As this registered nurse stated, having diabetes is a growing problem.
