Analysis Of My Strengths And Weaknesses In My Writing

Over this semester, that is soon to come to a close, there have been many opportunities to watch growth not only within my writings, but also within the approach to the process as a whole. As I look back over my essays that I have compiled these past few months, I cannot help but notice how much I have grown as a writer and interpreter of other’s works. As this is true, there are also various different strengths and weaknesses involved. Both the strengths and weaknesses can range from various different things, but all together it never defers from the quality that can be produced in the end. It is truly interesting to go back and evaluate all the work from the past, and it can only provide insight for continued growth in the future. At the …show more content…
I have always believed myself to be a strong writer, but also I know that I do make mistakes in my writings that could truly be fixed easily. My weaknesses and mistakes can be easily pointed out, and most of them are really simple to the point that if I did put my mind to it, that I could really fix them without problem. One of my major weaknesses that I noticed not only in the writings but also just over the course of the semester in general, is that I tend to rush myself with my writings and with this stupid mistakes were made. Whether it is really something as simple as missing a comma or spelling a word wrong, it is something that I have noticed and I have began to work on more. As the semester progressed, I allowed myself more time to sit down and really focus on the task at hand. This truly seemed to benefit me greatly. One other weakness that I have, I struggle with the proofreading aspect. This sort of goes hand in hand with what I previously stated. I am aware that I do rush myself, but at the same time I do not allow myself the time to go back and read back over it. At times, I struggle to find these mistakes I do make and they stick out when I do have the chance to look at the essays now. This is something that truly needs to be continually worked on, and over the course of the semester I began to really dig into myself and forced myself to go back and fix any mistake that I possibly could. As I …show more content…
Being able to break down these stories and use them in many ways is nothing short of amazing. Being able to identify certain aspects such as themes, and what makes a character the way they are makes reading great. Being able to see those also makes the readings more relatable. When one is able to bring the relatable aspects into there life, it can be truly inspiring. It seems like it is almost undeniable that stories can truly inspire people, and provide them with an example to follow to better not only themselves but others. Whether it is another person benefiting from these or even myself, I believe literature will always have a huge impact on society as a

One of my biggest problems is procrastination. As I stated in my first paper, I start my writing process “with procrastination, something I do often that uses most of my time…I just can’t get myself to focus on writing that well” (“Is There a Right Way?”). It delays me from getting into my writing, which could probably be a lot better than it is right now if I could get myself to concentrate. Procrastination also doesn’t give me enough time to really think about the assignment, what it’s asking of me, what I think about it, and what I could talk about. Another change necessary to improve my writing, is that I need to better consider all the ideas in my first drafts so that I can try to expand and connect them, and to find the best ideas for what I’m trying to say.…

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

I wrote one “source-based argumentative essay” in high school: my final essay from sophomore English. The guidelines were to write a four to eight page paper on any topic of your choice, but the thesis of the paper had to come across clearly. At the time, my personal goals were to write about something no one else would, as well as get an A in the class. As a future collegiate writer, I feel as though I have the habits and potential strengths to be successful, but my biggest weakness is that I do not know how to write a professional essay and I am a reluctant editor.…

I hope one day my writing will be proficient enough that I will no longer have these current struggles. Although, I do have to say that these writing conflicts have made me a stronger writer because I picked up new strategies along the way. I’m absolutely thankful that I got the chance to write about the subjects I wanted to; I no longer whined about how long the essay was supposed to be because I knew how enlivened the writing process was going to be. Overall, it was quite the writing experienced and it wasn't as horrid as I though it was going to be.…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

I believe that sometimes my mistakes in grammar stay on my papers because while I am revising and editing my paper I have trouble reading the actual words on the paper and instead read the things that my mind says it should read. For example, one of my greatest mistakes is forgetting to write some commas when the writing should have it. The problem is that in my mind I read it as if the comma is there while it is truly not, I believe that this problem extends in part out of the fact that I read a lot of books where the grammar is not the best and I always try to ignore it while I am reading. Additionally, I also need to work on eliminating my run on sentences from my writing.…

After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
