Stereotypes Of Women In Advertising

Overtime, the United States has created many different stereotypes that women and men are suppose to follow. That being, women are suppose to be emotional, caring, submissive, and clean and men are suppose to be strong, dominant, athletic, and assertive. People have been taught these stereotypes ever since they were young children. On Saturday, February 18th at 9:00 a.m., there was two children’s television shows on Nick Jr. While watching these shows, there were two commercial advertisements that played during the breaks of the show. The commercials were products geared more towards females, males, and both females and males. For the female products, the commercials tended to be toys that involved caring for something or pampering themselves. They had shades of pinks and purples and had happy, upbeat music playing in the background. For the male products, …show more content…
This advertisement is definitely geared towards younger girls, just like the group of young girls in this advertisement. The message that is given to the advertisement’s audience is that the toy can be used by any type of girl no matter what her personality. The four girls who are in this image are seen all be wearing different types of outfits, representing different personalities. The first girl, on the far left of the image has a frilly, light pink skirt with a white sweater and a headband representing a girly-girl personality. The second girl in the image is wearing a skirt but she has zebra leggings underneath it. The third girl has pink streaks in her hair and hot pink pants with a jean jacket representing a spunkier personality. The fourth girl is wearing a pink jacket with blue capris and glasses representing a preppier personality. By having each girl represent a different personality, this is showing the commercial’s viewers that girls with all different personalities can still play and have fun with this
