State of the Union The annual State of the Union speech is well known throughout our country. The speech serves as a kind of map, in which the current president at the time uses to emphasize what he/she will be focusing on for the coming year, and what he will not be focusing on as much. This year, for the 2015 State of the Union speech Barrack Obama’s speech included several main themes, but it became clear early on in the speech that his main focus for this year is on the middle class, and how to become more effective in protecting, stabilizing, and more making working families stronger. In the 2015 State of the Union Speech, there were several main themes that president Obama gave us. His first, and clearly biggest item on his agenda this year was focusing on the middle class. During his speech, President Obama defined the economics of middle class as, “The idea that this country does best when everyone get their fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules” (Obama). Obama expressed his feelings on childcare (cheaper for middle and lower class), free community college, and lowering mortgage payments.
The second main theme that President Obama made in his State of the Union speech earlier this year, was our country’s troubling problem with race relations.
