A Stars lifecycle can span from millions to trillions of years depending on the size of the star. Starting from a cloud of gas and dust then transforming into something that we on earth see every day as our own Sun then finally collapsing upon itself and eventually dying. Stars have been a major part of the development of life on Earth and will continue to dictate how we live our lives. Without these enormous balls of gas and energy life as we know it would cease to exist. This is regrettably something that scientists will have to deal with for our own star, however that is a very long time off.

Stars begin as something that is nothing of what we think of when we hear the word “star” they begin as clusters of gas and dust. Eventually this cloud of gas and dust will form a dense portion somewhere within itself. This will in turn attract more and more gas and dust because of the gravitational attraction of the particles. As this dense portion grows increasingly more dense the temperature increases and begins to emit light initially as infrared and eventually in the visible spectrum. It is at this point that a star is born.

Within this center atomic particles called Protons begin to collide with such force that nuclear fusion will occur. Hydrogen atoms, which are relatively light in weight, will form heavier Helium atoms and release energy. With billions of these small reactions occurring energy streams outwards from the center and is emitted as light and heat. Stars are born in clusters, when these clusters are well populated they remain together and allow for astrologists to study the history of the various stars.
