Spring Clean Painting Analysis

“Spring Clean” by Tom Powell is the painting that I felt had a lot of meaning to me. When the paper first got mentioned, I went to the Ice House Gallery in Mayfield, Ky. Tom Powell donated this painting just shortly before that to help raise money for the gallery. The subject matter in the piece is a house and in the back yard is a clothes line with four blankets hanging from tree to tree. And in the background is a barn and a wooden fence that is darker than the rest of the painting. This painting stuck out to me because it brought back memories to when I was a lot younger. My mom and grandmother would get together almost every spring and would help each other clean their houses. But now as they have both gotten older and my mom has to work, …show more content…
He used polychromatic throughout the painting, many colors were used and because there were so many colors used he didn’t have pattern or rhythm. It has Afocal point because your eyes don’t look at one thing, their looking at all the different colors and objects the painting has. It didn’t have any negative space, it was all positive. The painting does consist of value because the front of the paint is light but as it moves back, more and more shadows are produced because the sun has not touched them certain parts yet. One point perspective is used, the parallel lines are the house and the clothes line. I believe Tom Powell painted this painting to make people feel warm and comfort, it looks so peaceful and calm. In today’s world, everybody is always in a hurry and this painting reminds me that t doesn’t always have to be that way. It makes me want to take my time and enjoy life because before we know it time has already passed and it’s too late. And the way it looks darker in the back because the sun hasn’t touched it yet, means to me that things will always get better it just takes time for things to get

The lines in the wheat fields seemed to be perfect in the fact that he did not miss a beat with them. There are a couple wheat fields that have lines that only go part of the wheat field to symbolize that crop growing more than the other wheat. The flowers that are in the foreground of the painting is very detailed. It seems to be that there is only one yellow flower out of all the other flowers. This flower has bloomed and is beautiful compared to the rest.…

Another matching element that many miss when initially looking at the painting is the sister’s apron and the curtains are actually the same pattern Lastly, the pitchfork is shown again on the shirt of the man. I also love the contrasting colors of the painting as well. The light colors of the blue sky and green trees pairs perfectly with the dark colors both the man and woman are wearing. “ Anna “Why do you think they are so serious in the painting?” Jesse “I think it’s interesting how the colors the painting almost look faded or muddy, giving the painting almost an eerie feeling of possibly sadness or depression.…

Nearly the entire background of the painting is different values of green. Darker, muddy green colors at the bottom left corner and lighter refreshing values of green in the middle right surround the mother and child. The isolation in the painting created by mostly negative space emphasises the human connection. The two are surrounded by a natural, calm atmosphere where they can find peace. Green is a very natural, peaceful, safe color that evokes harmonious feelings and symbolizes growth and fresh energy.…

My initial reactions to this painting is how detailed the landscapes are drawn. I am drawn to the prehistoric setting, and how Thomas Cole is able to incorporate various elements such as the rays of light, an erupting volcano, the waterfall over the cliffs, and a lone wolf feeding on the carcass of a deer. In particular, I think the painting evokes sadness and a sense of uncertainty because of the manner in which Adam and Eve are banished from a place of paradise and are now forced to live in a desolate world filled with unknown surprises and dangers. The painting does capture the essence of the event that is described in the Book of Genesis.…

Kehinde Wiley: A Twist on Urban Culture Kehinde Wiley’s art work gives a twist to urban culture, and highlights a group of people who is usually persecuted for their beliefs, looks and culture. His exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art left my mind in “aha,” and in fact, inspired me to dig deeper into his works. My intriguing curiosity led me to his website http://kehindewiley.com/about . The streets of Harlem awakened Wiley’s keen eye to the natural-raw form of the brown skinned man; and eventually, took him on a journey to countries such as: Brazil, Jamaica, Haiti, Africa and the Middle East.…

In this exceedingly powerful painting, “Figures in a Landscape” painted in 1972 by Sidney Goodman, a child, woman, and man are in what looks to be a park because of the sandbox and blue and red swing set. In the background the mountains are bright and happy with houses surrounded by many tall green trees. On the right side of the painting is a huge dark gloomy cloud like when a murder is about to occur in a horror movie. The figures look like something is going on in their mind, maybe they are unhappy with each other or something is really upsetting them. When I see this painting I feel as if the figures are in there own world not aware of their surroundings.…

The painting doesn’t have any harsh brush strokes, and the paint seems to be very blended. It was painted on a huge canvas that took up the length of an entire wall at the museum. As soon as I saw it, I feel in love with it. It is a very abstract painting that is painted with red, white, and blue paint. Those colors were used to be patriotic. Stand there, right in front of the painting; what do you see? Look closely, very closely and see the paint on the canvas flow through each brush stroke, see the colors expand and blur, and see how the lights play off the soft, vibrant colors. Watch the swirls expand out into an infinite space in time . The paint flies beyond the canvas and the shadows and reflections blur into one. The pinks, blues, reds, yellows, oranges, purples, and browns blend together to create a symphony of colors.…

While attending an art museum called “The Metropolitan” in New York City, I discovered many interesting portraits, sculptures, and much more artwork of all times. One of the portraits that had caught my eye was called Spring Time by Pierre-Auguste Cot. He painted this portrait in 1873 and it was now found at The Metropolitan Museum. The material that was used is called oil on canvas, according to the tag that was placed by this painting. Unfortunately, the size of the painting was not listed on the right side tag of the portrait, but it was a nice big painting.…
