Dan resumes his searching for
happiness, training and visiting places around the world to study yoga,shamanism, and other
stuff. Dan teaches gymnastics and aikido at Berkley, but doesn't go visit the gas station, feeling
like he has nothing to show for himself.
CH8: Dan decides to go hiking and when he’s hiking Socrates comes out after 9 or 10 years
and continue hiking. Next night after hiking, Soc tells Dan a warrior should be happy without
reason, making happiness the ultimate discipline and something you are rather than something
you feel. Soc tells Dan an adapted version of Plato’s allegory of the cave, saying people get
trapped in the caves of their own minds and only some warriors see the light outside. Reaching
the cave lightning flashes, and Soc takes Dan deeper into the cave. Socrates tells Dan this is
his final journey. Soc pushes Dan down over a precipice, and Dan falls out of the mountain
cave into a sunlit meadow. Dan realizes he is the consciousness that observes and is the
observer and is all, and the Dan Millman who lived long ago was just a flash in time. Socrates
