Social Problems: Gender Inequality

One of the many social problems we face today in our society is gender inequality. What is gender inequality? It is the difference in the status, power and prestige women and men have in groups, collectivities, and societies. Additionally, gender is built into the major organizations of society such as the economy, ideology, family and politics(Weinberg). In this paper I will explain the problems that society has struggled with because of gender inequality.
Firstly, I would like to address the most important problem of inequality which is in the workplace. Employment opportunities for men and women is one issue that shows ample amount inequality. Statistically, Women perform 60% of work world wide, they earn 10% of income, and own 10% of the land (Eitzen and Baca-Zinn (2003:243). Women are mistreated throughout all levels of employment. According to payscale, It has been proven that men 's wages grow for a long period of time and achieve higher levels than women, on average(GAP). This is a significant societal concern because, It’s not fair that women are not getting the same job opportunities as men but statistics have shown that it has always been that way. Studies show that The United States, like all other societies, places women and men unequally at many different levels of social organization.
