“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”- Martin Luther King Jr. Two reasons that equality has not been accomplished in the U.S. are women don't get equal opportunities or equal salaries to men and black people are still not treated as equal.
One reason, equality has failed to exist in the U.S is black men and women are not treated equally to white men and women. For example, almost all of the black people who took a survey about 92 percent of them said they saw that discrimination against black people and people of color still happens everyday in America. Women still make only about 80% of what men earn for full time work. Women are less likely to have supervisory positions then men, and when they do, their positions carry less authority. Also, “Housewives” are perceived as in the lower half of all groups in social status. Even though both partners earn wages, women do twice as much housework and child care. Another point is American women have made substantial gains since 1970. But gains have leveled off since the 1990s which suggests that the gender revolution may be stopping or slowing down. Also, while obama was in office women made huge strides for equality. Up until Obama enacted the Affordable Care Act in 2010, women weren't guaranteed coverage for things such as maternity care and birth control. These policies changed the lives of women across the country, but now the Trump administration is doing everything in their power to repeal this act, even without a replacement. The movement of equality for women is slowing down and may be coming to a stop if we don’t something to change that soon.
