Smoking in Public Smoking bans in the United States have been around since the 1970’s. Since then different states have made their own laws about where you are allowed to smoke in public areas. Other states have made minimal efforts to decrease the smoking in public. Smoke bans are not made to target those who smoke, rather protect those who do not. Smoking in public produces second hand smoke that is harmful to those around them, to help reduce exposure to second hand smoke for people, the government should ban smoking in all public places except in a designated smoking area and implement strict fee based private smoking areas for those who feel the need to smoke in public, also the government should mandate a class to those who purchase smoking products (such as tobacco, e-cigs, vaping products, etc.) on the effects of smoking to include the effects of second hand smoke, and encourage the states the increase the prices on all tobacco or smoking related products.
There have already been numerous states that have begun to ban smoking in different public areas. Banning smoking in restaurants was the start to of smoking bans.
