Sleep is known as one of the most important factors for human life. According to the researchers Galambos, Lascano, Howard, and Maggs (2002) irregular sleep is common in postsecondary students. One of the most common causes of daytime sleepiness among college students is sleep deprivation. Students get inadequate sleep because they go to bed late and wake up early. This can occur for many reasons; two being physiologic and behavioral (Hershner & Chervin, 2014). Sleep deprivation has many symptoms and affects individuals in different manners however using an alternative strategy for sleeping may ease the symptoms of sleep deprivations.
What is Sleep Deprivation?
Sleep deprivation is a disease that is affecting the whole world. Sleep deprivation in adults refers to sleep that is shorter than the average of 7 to 8 hours per night. Sleep deprivation increases as adults grow older, nearly a third of Americans suffer from sleep deprivation, however college students are one of the populations that suffers the most from it. Sleep deprivation are increasingly prevalent among college students, with the most commonly reported complaints being difficulty falling asleep, difficulty maintaining sleep, early morning awakenings, poor sleep quality, early morning fatigue or sleepiness, and daytime napping (Buboltz, Brown, & Soper, 2001).
