Female oppression appears significantly as a theme all round the novel 1984 and graphic novel Persepolis. By presenting female oppression in different forms and ways they hold the element patently. Prolonged cruelty and unjust treatment have been applied to women as they suppress them under gender and sexual inequality. She is in the Junior Anti-Sex League and is a character that seems as if she had general clean-mindedness. More importantly, she is a young and pretty girl which stimulates men sexually and evoke urges and desire for sex. As a result of this Winston hates this young and pretty girl who had made him repress urges that were hopeless. Unexpectedly, Julia was different she was young and pretty and was sexually appealing, however, she was a rebel. Julia’s rebellious act against sexual oppression was expressed through having sex. Breaking the rules, which involved sex was the striking action of rebelling, sex was supposed to be a heavy duty that was only for procreation. Sex was a duty and nothing more than that, it could not involve pleasure or any craving for satisfaction. Furthermore, emotions of love were completely prohibited due to the loyalty towards Big Brother. Guilty feelings, thoughts that are uncontrollable are counted as thought crime. The society in 1984 establishes a sense of abhorrence towards men’s desire for sex. The construction of this beliefs is formed solidly into the society. Women were placed in the anti-sex leagues, this fueled and solidified the hatred of sex even more. The relationship between men and women were equivalent and nothing sexual was incorporated, there was complete removal of sexuality. In order to completely eliminate the idea of sex, women are implanted with thoughts that sex is shameful, dirty, and unnecessary from an early age. The brainwashing of children ensures the party that women will avoid sex and have in nature the disgust of sex, and the party has faith that they will not have sex without the command for procreation.
