The Civil War saw many controversies and events which is why it is called a pivotal and “most bloodiest” event in history (history.com video). America’s prosperity had to start somewhere after the main piece of the country were broken down and built back up. 1865 and 1915 was a large timeframe to be exact fifty years; for many events to happen. It is one major reason for America to come together because it shows that it literally fell apart and built itself back up into a major country. Escaping poverty was a common motivator for many people to find work jobs no matter how minuscule. Chicago had a large meat butcher and packing center offering jobs to a large amount of unemployed workers. Presidents in this time period had many of the same problems when dealing with poverty, union strikes and other needs for military from conflict. President Lincoln had to deal with a major event besides the civil war. He had he emancipation proclamation where several slaves in the states were released and set free to do with as they will in this country. Along the way families managed to keep together while suffering from various illness and disease that had no known vaccines or medicines for in that time period. Many other problems such as crime, corruption and constant work strikes also came often (yawp16). Many of them came with next to nothing to own and came over for themselves and to benefit while making a better life. ”Between 1870 and 1920, over twenty-five million immigrants arrived in the United States. This migration was largely a continuation of a process begun before the Civil War, though by the turn of the twentieth century” (yawp). Poverty was definitely a sign of the times because the country nearly depleted itself in various resources while trying to fight the war on numerous fronts. Poverty was almost a way of life for many, however many families managed to push through with finding work and or just getting by living off the land with farms they were able to acquire. Civil war had many continuous problems with states joining and leaving the Union for the Confederacy involving secession along the borderstates. Many bordering states had to deal with this problem yet a larger country was formed later on. Many other famous names brought into reading was Chase, Ford and Heinz (yawp) of products modernized in America. All of these people started their own prosperous ideas which are still going strong in America in todays’ society. Some of those can be contributed and distinguished to the success and growth of today as well. Modernization of several items and other useful inventions were on the rise but the only problem that remained was how to get simple textiles/materials to various parts of the country. This mass production of a “staple” in this time in America was helping bring industrialization after the civil war. National railroad mileage tripled in the twenty years after the outbreak of the Civil War, and tripled again over the four decades that followed (yawp-18). Railroads also helped move and bring products to and from various locations in America while right now the country was developing. The opinion of this writer, one would wonder if this is a major step in evolution that will continue to contribute to success of this countries health and wealth. America was becoming explored, charted and finding out what is exactly in the unknown in such an early time
