As the viewer walks around this sculpture they see a turning of perceptions and understanding in a sense like this culture did. There is a shared experienced between our culture and this culture upon surveying the icon. Shiva is wearing beads on his shirtless chest, as well as bracelets on his wrists, biceps and ankles. These are symbols of an eternal stylized ornamentation. The manner in which Shiva’s hair is thoughtfully done is important. His hair sits in the style of cone and reminds the viewer of a crown based on the way it points up to the sky and extenuates his head. This is an important and recognizable aspect of Shiva because it shows the power and immortality of a headdress. Other notable characteristics of this sculpture are the position of the hands as well as what they may mean in regard to culture and context. Some hands of Shiva appear to be holding elements which are now fragmented due to the age of the sculpture while other hands are not holding anything but rather striking poses. When looking at the sculpture from the front and reading the visual language of the hands from left to right the viewer notices that there is a thoughtful symmetry to the layout …show more content…

Possibly the lighting in the room had an effect but it seems as if the knee, shoulder, face, lap, and hands look different. This could be due to the weather and deterioration through the decades over time. There is a possibility that whatever vibrant paint they had decorated this icon over and over again with left some sort of darker color and dye within the sculpture. What they originally had on them is no longer capable of declaring due to disintegration through the years. Or possibly people interacting with the icon in a repeated physical way. Also these icons could have been draped, covered, and wrapped in different textiles that are long disappeared. All can take away from this ruin is the context in which this transformation occurred, and how its strategy of intervention and preservation have played a

The sculpture is painted in black, and it is created by using many different geometric shapes for example rectangles, squares and triangles as well as the use of different types of lines such as horizontal, vertical and wavy lines. Looking at this art work directly gives an illusion as if the object is 2d as well as offering a smooth texture due to the paint applied on the objects and evenly distributed spacing between the objects. The emphasis in artwork is located in the left side of the sculpture by using more objects compared to the right side of the sculpture. The sculpture is well balanced with exterior cubic…

These are shown in the same gallery to create the theme of the ancient Egyptians and how symbols and artwork were a big part of their culture. The portrait of Khafre Enthroned is similar to this sculpture because both men are seen as noble, and the texture shows how antique the artworks are. The difference between them is that the portrait of Khafre Enthroned is bigger in size and the stone is diorite. Unfortunately, The Haremhab as a Scribe of the King is not in the book but the sculpture interestingly represents something we should all live up to, which is wisdom and understanding. One quality that stands out is the key and the lock in front and back of Haremhab.…

Here she is standing five feet tall, with gentle feminine curls cascading down her narrow face and onto her shoulders; so perfectly symmetric it radiates beauty. The hard marble helps to emphasize the strong noble composure that illuminates in her expression yet the slightly off white color further expresses the contrast between purity and strength. The pursed lips, and slightly lifted chin help to express that her eyes are looking across the room and that she is looking down on the passersby thus depicting her true nature as a goddess overlooking everyone from above. The patrons walking through the museum can catch her stare from across the gallery in a simple glance despite her eyes being so marvelously simple as compared to the rest of the statue.…

The curved lines of the snakes in the skirt convey the sense that the snakes are constantly in motion and full of energy. The diagonal lines that cross over to form the scales of the snakes also add to this effect. The organic form of the snakes that coil around the body present an air of movement in the skirt because of the heads and the ends of the snakes that can clearly be seen. Other organic forms are representing the human form, which is seen in indentations in her body like rolls of fat and the breasts present on the torso of the statuette hint at the shape of the goddess was human.
