The mural on the side of Roosevelt Community Church depicts a man with his arms spread wide like an eagle. This mural is beautiful but very confusing. It is a man without skin whose arms are spread wide, since there is no skin passerby’s can see are muscles bones and tendons. When I first saw the mural I thought to myself, “what the heck could this possibly stand for?” I sat there staring at the mural and after about ten to fifteen minutes I still just sat there dumbfounded as to what the mural could stand for. After trying to figure out what the heck the mural was, I stopped analyzing it and instead I started to analyze the area around the mural. In order to begin to understand the message or the mural everything around it must be analyzed by means of color, symbols, and location.

Quadrant one consists of the head and neck region of the mural. In this quadrant you see half of a face. The face only goes up as far to see the nostrils of the man. The man’s head is tilted backwards and there are blue and white hexagons coming out of the top half of the head. The face of the man is muscle and if you look at the next you see the muscle striations in the neck. Lastly you’ll notice that the muscles on the neck go into as much detail as showing us the muscle striations in the neck. Quadrant two consists of the torso and chest of the man in the mural. In this quadrant you see the chest and torso. The chest consists entirely of muscle, and collarbones. In the torso of the man you see no muscle or skin only the spine and ribs along with a little bit of blue where the ribs are. Quadrant Three and Four consist of the arms. On both arms of the man you see bones, tendons and muscles. One of the most interesting parts about the mural is that both arms are reflections of each other meaning that the look exactly the same just

Despite only a portion of the work remaining, it is evident that Apollo or Dionysus was depicted with a lean body type as evidenced by the slimness of the figure, coupled with its flat stomach. There is the presence of v-shaped lines at the intersection of the abdomen and the beginning of the thigh, marking a clear division of the torso and pelvis. The appearance of v-shaped lines is present whenever a man has low body fat and muscular definition, and those of the sculpture are deeply accentuated. There is an athletic appearance to the torso; however, its athleticism is depicted as toned as opposed to bulky. For instance, while there is some muscular definition in the figure’s abdomen, there is not a noticeable prominence of the abdominal region.…

No Hip In The Wild Tren Linsley Violence and chaos, is used, in conjunction with symbolic aspects, and binary opposition as literary tools, in “No Church In the Wild” to show fundamental problems with gender inequality in society, pointing out the irony that men are the ones with all the power, yet are ones who use it for violence. “No Church In The Wild” in this sense is a very overzealous example of “hipster” counterculture. The video opens with a relatively still shot of a man holding a molotov cocktail on what appears to be a regular city street He then clicks a lighter and ignites it, as soon as he does. The beat starts and the song begins.…

Cockcroft and Barnet-Sanchez: Interpretive space is important for a group because it is a symbol or sign just as a music and language. Cockcroft and Barnet-Sanchez said: “Since before the cave paintings at Altamira some 15,000 years before the Christ, wall paintings have served as a way of community people" (Cockcroft, Barnet-Sanchez, 303). Is it true to say that murals is artistic vehicle for educating, teaching religion. The United States supported for murals during the New Deal period, and "more than 2500 murals were painted with government sponsorship" (Cockcroft, Barnet-Sanchez, 306). The Urban excursion event was packed with so many beautiful murals. The one mural I selected is “The Evolving Face of Nursing” by Meg Saligman. This unique mural is located at the intersection of Broad and Vine streets of Center City. This mural was to celebrate and bring attention to the nursing communities, plus, change the way the public looks at public art and nursing professionals. “The Evolving Faces of Nursing” replaced another mural that was once there, it was called “A Tribute to Nursing” (Evolving Faces of Nursing, 2010).…

Leonardo da Vinci was intellectually well-rounded and produced masterpieces of art, scientific investigation, and architecture throughout his long life. “Learning never exhausts the mind.” These are some of the wise words of Leonardo da Vinci. This particular quote personally stands out to me because da Vinci never let up on learning until the day he died, he just always kept it up. This love of learning, consequently, cultivated his fascination and close studies of the human anatomy.…

How best should pastors present the Gospel to their congregations? This question plagues every pastor. Effective communication of the Gospel should be the primary goal of any local pastor. One cannot effectively communicate the Gospel without taking the dynamics of their hearers into consideration as part of the preparation of delivering a sermon. The road to the future is always saturated in a dense fog, refusing one the ability to see, for the most part, what is to come next. Art has been used for several centuries as a means to bring optimism and even pessimism to the individual about the nearby future through communicative messages about the here-and-now or the there-and-after. These messages help shape the form of a civilization, whether be restricted by a religious, traditional practice or by a series of laws—and quite often times, both—, and allow the community to live beyond time through the sense of permanence that they establish within Mother Nature’s domain. With messages of hope and doom, the common people typically seek a leader that will guide them past the cave of falsehood…

In the more than two years of attending Luther College, I had never been to a Sunday morning church service in the Center for Faith and Life. In fact, I have attended very few church services in my life. As a child, I went on rare occasions with my family to my grandfather’s Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, and often felt intimidated during the experience. I can remember the time I accompanied my grandfather to a service on a day in which the congregation received communion. During communion, I reached for the bread at the incorrect time, which displeased my grandfather, and prompted him to apologize to the minister for my behavior after the service.…
