Separation Of Polyesteramide

Polyesteramide (PEA) resin was synthesized by following step. The reaction mixture of diethanol amine (0.01 mol) and sodium methoxide (0.5 %) added with respect to the oleic acid (0.141 g) were charged in a four-necked round-bottom flask with fitted a dropping funnel, a nitrogen purging system. Oleic acid (0.01 mol, 2.82 g) dropwise added into the above reaction mixture up to 35 min with constant mechanical stirring as well as in the presence of N2 gas at 145–155 0 C. The progress of polyesteramide reaction was monitored by determination of the acid value. The reaction was continued until the theoretically calculated amount of water of the reaction was removed from reaction mixture and the acid value has been reached less than 10. Later than

In a typical example, 1 g c-PEO-OH was dissolved in 30 mL anhydrous N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent under dry argon atmosphere, to which 10 mL 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide was added at 0 °C dropwise for 30 min under vigorous stirring. The reaction mixture was then allowed to proceed at room temperature for 1 d. After that, the solution was concentrated by reduced pressure distillation to remove NMP solvent and excess 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. The crude product was then washed with saturated aqueous solution of NaHCO3 and water sequentially for 3 times, dried over MgSO4, and precipitated in cold n-hexane to obtain a final brown viscous product. Preparation of c-PEO-N3 by substituting the Br on c-PEO-Br with azide functionalities…

In the Acid-Catalyzed Hydration of norbornene, water and sulfuric acid were added to the C=C double bond to form norborneol. Sulfuric acid acted as a catalyst, where it was not consumed in the reaction and helped to propel the reaction forward, as it was vital in forming hydronium ion and breaking the double bond. Both the products endo-norborneol and exo-norborneol were synthesized; however regioselectivity and stereoselectivity played a role as to which product was more preferred and whether the equatorial or axial orientation of the hydroxy group was favored. The setup of the Cold-Finger, and the ability of norborneol to sublime readily allowed for the purification of the crude product to obtain the diastereomeric products exo- and endo-norborneol.…

The purpose of this lab was to prepare tetraphenylcyclopentadienone most commonly known as tetracyclone. This involved a 3-step synthesis over the course of 3 weeks. The first step was the preparation of benzoin, which was completed through self-condensation of benzaldehyde with thiamine used as the base catalyst of the reaction. The next step was the preparation of benzil from the oxidation reaction of benzoin with nitric acid. In the oxidation reaction, the alcohol functional group of benzoin was oxidized to form the carbonyl functional group of benzil, while the nitric acid was reduced into a mixture of nitrogen oxides that formed toxic brown fumes.…

Introduction: As it is taught throughout school, all living things are made up of cells. These cells are carry out all the necessary functions to keep the human body well maintained including chemical reactions and other complex tasks. In order to carry out these functions, it’s vital for the cell to possess a membrane. Cells create cholesterol, which is a cyclic fatty-product that maintains the cells permeability. Cholesterol is also synthesized to create steroid hormones, and also vitamin D.…

In the experiment, a Fischer Esterification reaction took place in order to convert a carboxylic acid into an ester. As a result of this reaction, the alcohol (-OH) of the original carboxylic acid, Benzoic Acid, will be replaced with the –OCH3 group attached to the original alcohol, methanol. This would then generate the ester, Methyl Benzoate. An ester is a derivative of a carboxylic acid that can be formed in multiple ways. The most straightforward approach to producing and ester involves the interaction between a carboxylic acid and an alcohol, where the oxygen of the alcohol would act as the nucleophile and the carboxylic acid takes the role of the electrophile.…

Esters are a chemically important pharmaceutical intermediate manufactured through the method of Esterification (ref?). An ester is formed from the catalysed reaction between a carboxylic acid and alcohol at elevated temperatures. This investigation aimed to synthesis and purify the butyl ethanoate ester through the reflux, isolation and distillation stages of the Esterification between butanol and ethanoic acid. The experiment was conducted in an isolated laboratory, with the reaction between butanol and ethanoic acid occurring at high operating temperature in the presence of a homogenous acid catalyst. The refluxed solution is then cooled to reach the point of supersaturation before 'washing' the mixture with water and other aqueous solvents…

The FTIR spectra of four phosphazenium salts and P5+ are shown in Figure S1. Four phosphazenium salts have characteristic absorptions at 2850 and 2930 cm-1, belonging to the stretching vibration of -CH2- and -CH-, respectively, and this peak in the P5+ represents the absorption of –CH3. All the five compounds exhibit absorption at 960, 1230, and 1442 cm-1 corresponding to the stretching vibrations of P–N. In the FTIR spectrum of Cy4P1+BF4-, the peaks at 1633 and 3432 cm-1 belong to water because of its strong hygroscopic nature.…

Fractional distillation is a common method for separating components of a mixture by utilizing their boiling points to aid in the separation. As a mixture is heated, the component with the lower boiling point in the mixture vaporize, while the higher boiling point component will remain in solution. These vapors will rise to a cooler area where they will condense and this liquid will then be collected; this is known as the distillate. Eventually, the lower boiling component will boil off, and the higher boiling point component will begin to travel up into the condenser as the temperature reaches the boiling point of the second component. As the second distillate is collected, it will mostly contain the higher-boiling component.…

Genipin is an ideal crosslinking agent in biomedical applications, which can undergo ring-opening polymerization in alkaline condition. The polygenipin can create short-range and long-range intermolecular crosslinking between protein chains. In this paper, the polygenipin with different degree of polymerization was successfully prepared and used to fix gelatin composite materials. The short-range and long-range crosslinking effects of polygenipin were systematically studied. The results show that the composite materials present porous structure with tunable pore sizes in the gel state, which can be easily controlled by adjusting the degree of polymerization of polygenipin.…

A reaction mechanism is a step-by-step process when reactant molecules change in their geometry in order to produce new products. This occurs due to omission or addition of reagents, where bonds are broken down to form new ones4. 4 amino-phenol contains two functional groups, an OH and a NH2 group attached to a benzene ring while acetic anhydride is a derivative of a carboxylic acid group.…
