On the first day, I found out that the program had invited a speaker to speak to the students. I was despondent at first, but then I heard him say something about failure. I cringed. At that moment, I knew my conscience would force me to listen. He dropped out of high school when he was sixteen. I was sixteen, and my greatest setback was merely losing an election. However, he said that being able to adapt to circumstances for the better was what changed him, what allowed him to grow. In his case, going from high school dropout to NYU graduate. I saw myself thinking about what could have been instead of moving forward. Had I not found the courage to take initiative and find out why I lost, and put myself in the shoes of someone who had more to overcome, I would have loomed down a path filled with regret. I sought immediate change, whether it was studying more or preparing for college applications. This made all the difference, because as a result, I saw that I could progress past an election result. Furthermore, I now understand that in the future I will face obstacles that I will be able to overcome, as long as I find the courage to take initiative and
