The story of "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street," written by Rod Serling was originally a book but turned out to be an episode in the series of "The Twilight Zone". There are many similarities and differences between the two.
In the TV episode that aired March 4, 1960, probably the most different thing is that Tommy (the boy that knew about what was going to happen. In the book, it is said that Tommy is a young boy about 8 to ten years old with glasses. Although Tommy wore glasses he looked about 12 to 14 years old. Also, later in the play, a rock hits Charlie in the cheek and cuts him. The teleplay showed that Charlie got hit on the forehead, not the cheek. One of the simplest but most important differences is the music in the background.

In the novel, Monster by Walter Dean Myers three themes are explored: race, justice, and A.V.R (appearance versus reality). One of the major themes and the one This paragraph talks about is A.V.P. There are multiple examples of this, but one I found really good was on page 1 “When I look into the small rectangle…….” The small rectangle being a mirror “I see a face looking back at me but…… It doesn’t look like me”. This is an appearance versus reality because to Steve, the main character of the book, the appearance is he doesn’t think the face he sees in the mirror is him but the reality is it is him.…

Also in “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street” the power goes out and things get violent, unlike The Andy Griffith Show. The complications may have been different but the ironies were also very…

The Twilight Zone The teleplay “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street,” by Rod Serling, is both similar and different to the TV episode of the same title which first aired on March 4th, 1960. Both have the same characters, such as Steve, Don, and Charlie, and both take place in a mysterious place called “The Twilight Zone,” on a classic American street in the fifties and sixties. Both feature a lot the same lines, and the camera moves in a similar way for most of both the teleplay and the TV episode-for example, both open with a shot of a sign reading “Maple Street.” The plot is the same in both—a meteor flies over quaint Maple Street, knocking out all the power.…

“The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” What did the monsters do on maple street?! Monsters come to a street with nice neighbors that become violent, so they become the monsters themselves. The plot is not realistic in “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” because the aliens mess with the power, and the cars, Tommy’s mom did not take him home when everyone started to get irrational, and they assumed it was monsters messing with everything. To begin this story is not realistic because I do not believe aliens are real.…

Rod Serling’s message to the readers of “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” is that fear causes quick, snap judgements that can lead to bad decision-making. This theme begins to appear in the story after a “meteor”, or an alien spaceship, lands near a neighborhood called Maple Street, and intentionally causes a strange power-outage. But when Les Goodman’s car starts suddenly, with him being nowhere near it, the neighbors begin to accuse Les of having something to do with the meteor and the weird power failure. They start to think this because his car was the only electronic device on the block that was working, even though a car starting completely by itself is ridiculous. This proves the point that fear leads to people making snap judgements without really thinking it through, because when Les’ car suddenly starts, everyone immediately becomes suspicious and demands answers from Les.…
