Roman Democracy
It is said that Rhome’s democracy was inspired by Greek civilization. Rhome created its first assembly the Comita Curiata which had represented tribes and made the decisions of peace and war. As population expanded, the Comitis Centuriade was created to reorganize. The Comitis Centuriade was a larger assembly that actually included representatives from the army. The assemblies were under limited power because of the Kings rule. Those who attended were strictly male, the men had to be relatively wealthy and soldiers in order to be elected. The assembly started around 600 BC and was the beginning of democracy. Etruscan dynasty was overthrown in 509 BC and the Roman Republic began. The people elected a pair …show more content…
Post Boston Tea Party, the Continental Congress decided to meet in Philadelphia to write the Declaration of Independence. The Congress declared the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776 to all American colonies. In the document, it states that a ruler only has power over the people he governs so Britain could not raise taxes. The war lasted from 1775-1783 where George Washington was the General of the Army. America eventually won the war with help from France. Britain signed the Treaty of Paris ratifying America’s Independence. America then created a nation, government, and constitution from scratch. Locke and Montesquieu created the constitution and developed the branches of government. The Executive power was the president, the Judicial power: was the system of national courts, and Legislative was the House of Representative and the Senate. People were not quick to ratify the document to their all of the states because they just got out of an awful partnership with Britain where they were living under the rules of the monarchy. The Bill of Rights and the Constitution was created to make America a Representive Democracy so that what happened in England would never happen
