“Apparently the economy is doing well. Only the workers are suffering.” Is a quote from the article and it represents the blind eye society has towards the workers. Raynor tries to get the readers to sympathize with the worker’s situations. The use of pathos is an important element to get the readers to look past the idea that just jobs were lost, but to realize that these are actual people who are now going through hardships. By including this emotional appeal, he is able to reach a wide variety of audiences, but this might hit close to home for those who are workers themselves. The effectiveness of this article is cut short because of this, the reader is left clueless about what kind of adjustments can be made to help those in the work force. Raynor could have potentially expanded on his specific union to give insight about the type of work they do in order to help workers. Since Raynor is the president of UNITE, he probably is also informed of other unions, and could have mentioned them as well. For example, UNITEHERE! is a labor union that represents people who work in the hotel, gaming, food service, manufacturing, textile, laundry, transportation, and airport industries. These two unions have some similar goals and reach about the same audience, so Raynor could have mentioned a union similar to his to inform his readers
