One major occurrence that portrayed signs of ethnic hierarchy is when this certain white police officer made a traffic stop on a black couple. Without hesitation he began to unnecessarily question them and requested that they step out of the vehicle. Following this, he excessively and inappropriately groped the black woman as he was
“searching” her for any weapons or contraband that she might have as the husband was forced to just stand and watch. The biggest thing about this dilemma was the fact that it felt as if the black community was inferior to the white community, and that they were victims of racial hierarchy.
Even after the search was done and they were allowed to leave, the wife was upset that the husband didn’t take action and stand up for her. Although she had a valid point, the husbands debate was that if he was to try and stop the officer he could have been shot for being black, thus adding to the misconception that the black community was trouble, and inferior to the white community.
