As a cyclone slashes through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are taken away in their house to the magical Land of Oz. They follow the yellow brick road toward the Emerald City to meet the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, and on her journey she meet a Scarecrow wanting a brain, a Tin Man wanting a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help. In the end, Dorothy made her way back home using her ruby slippers.

There are many characters in this movie with many functions. Dorothy is quite the heroine in this movie. She is a protagonist who completes her quest of returning home without getting harmed. Along the way, she has mentors. Her primary mentor is Glinda, the good witch of the North, she guides Dorothy on her path to successfully return home. Toto is also a mentor. Toto unmasks the Wizard of Oz, and jumps out of the Wizard’s balloon, leading Dorothy to her last part of her quest home. There are two important threshold guardians. The first would be Professor Marvel, he convinces Dorothy to return home and not run away from home. The guard at the gate of Emerald City is also a threshold guardian, allowing the path way toward the Wizard. Dorothy is tested all along the journey and often comes close to losing her way. The villain in this movie is the Wicked Witch of the West, seeking revenge for the death of her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East, creating diversions on her…
