While the town of Hamelin was in the middle of a rat infestation. A piper came into town one day with claims that he could lure the rats out of town with his magic pipe. As Robert Browning states in Pied Piper of Hamelin 1“ the pipe, by means of a secret charm has the ability to draw All creatures living beneath the sun”(10) He promised that he would get rid of the rats if he in return got a payment of gold from the towns mayor. Browning was a master of dramatic monologue, “Browning did not invent the dramatic monologue but he inhabited and populated it” (“telegraph.co.uk”10). He has written numerous stories, like the Ring and the Book, that are still famous to this day.
