James Sterling died on June 25th, 1992 due to complications during surgery. Opinions on the work of James Sterling differ greatly depending on who one speaks to. Some such as Vittorio Gregotti wrote that "from now on, everything will be more difficult.” While others like Jonathan Meades claim that "His buildings, like their bombastic maker, looked tough but were perpetual invalid, basket cases.” These claims, however, are not unfounded. Multiple buildings that Sterling designed do have quite large flaws for example history faculty and library at Cambridge.
