Sibling Relationship
Exploring my family birth order, composition, relationship, and how they affected and continue to affect my development. Born to a mother who is half African - American / half Caucasian and a father who is half Indian / half Bahamian, my family knows no color boundaries. My mother and father are from large families; therefore, it is no wonder they had eight kids of their own. My father had a son before my mother making it altogether nine sibling, five boys and 4 girls. We all are close as close could be. My family birth order is as follows: my half-brother Roy is the oldest. Michiel is the next oldest, but the oldest child between my mother and father. Many people who knew my mother said that I am her split image. I am that sibling who everyone runs too in the time of crisis. I am that person, family members’ call when they need prayer, support, motivation, medical assistant, etc. I am the most likable and favorite auntie. I have over twenty-five first generation nieces and nephews and over thirty-five grand-nieces and grand-nephews. We all are super close. Our favorite pass time is volunteering as a family during the holidays.
The effect my family relationship has own my life is very significant. Matter of fact, my family is the driving source in me to continue my education after twenty-five years and to live a very healthier life style. We motivate each other to do better in life and not to settle for less. We create opportunity for each other and sacrifice when we need too.
In text-book, Human Development, it list qualities in which certain sibling have according to birth order; fortunately, my family dynamics is quite different. We all own and show the same kind of roles equally. The only different I am more of the nurture in the family. Therefore, I do not get involved with any kind of conflict. It is my family structure, beliefs, value, and relationships that helped developed and made me to who I am
