Before some of the advancements in technology, all records of information was saved and filed in cabinets for a specific amount of time before they were disposed of. Now most information will be kept within a database. A database is a group of records that comprise of people, places, or things. An example of a paper-based database is a telephone book. A telephone book has information of phone users in a specific location. Each user is listed by name, address and number. The listed information is the same for a business. A business organizes data in a relational database. The relational database consists of data the business needs to be operational. In my experience as a logistician, we rely on suppliers on hand inventory to make sure our warehouse and assemblages are fully stocked. If they weren’t able to meet that fulfillment we would find someone else that could even last minute because anything could happen in a short notice. I would assume that the response would be the same in the IT field. Now we have a starting database that has a list of everything that we need for our business the next step would be to create a database management system (DBMS) so we can use the data in the best way possible. Instead of looking at an endless list of records the (DBMS) allows the end users to create their own view to get only the information they need which is called data manipulation language. The data manipulation language use today is Structured Query Language (SQL). SQL is the tool used in DBMS to extract data to the users’ request. Like I said before once the user identifies all the supplies they need in the database the products are purchased and shipped to the customer creating a business relationship with the two.
