This reading has been useful in understanding the different ways one can set out to conduct scientific research in the real world. While the author does a good job of remaining objective and supporting arguments of all sides it recognizes critical realism as being the best approach. Refreshingly, the author seems to place importance on staying flexible and creating or combining previously held notions when trying to provide answers to social issues through research.
