Ray Stannard was conceived in Lansing, Michigan, on April 17, 1870. He spent his initial life on a homestead before enlisting in Michigan Agrarian School (now Michigan State College) as an undergrad. After Stannard finished his investigations at Macintosh, he selected in the College of Michigan to contemplate law and writing. It was there he initially came into contact with reporting and enlisted in a course called Rapid Writing, the primary daily paper composing class in any American establishment. His teacher, Fred N. Scott, frequently reprimanded Bread cook's publications. However it affected him to be a superior essayist, and his enthusiasm for law and writing started to decrease. Interested by what he saw, he started submitting stories about it. His editorial manager rejected them, saying the city couldn't be depicted as poor. He continued composition the stories that his editorial manager needed for the Record and composed an independent article on the Pullman, Illinois strike of 1894, which concentrated on the regular workers bad form. By 1898, Stannard had hitched his school sweetheart, Jessie Irene Beal, and moved to New York to work for McClure's Syndicate. Stannard joined McClure's, the point at which the magazine was taking off in prominence. He was working nearby other rising meddlers, for example, Ida Tarbell and Lincoln Steffens. Stannards' gathering of people was moved by his composition. Indeed, even President Theodore Roosevelt adulated Stannard, letting him know, "You have awed me with your sincere want to be reasonable, with your opportunity from madness, and with your uneasiness to come clean as opposed to compose something that will be breathtaking".
