Rape culture is defined by Wikipedia as "a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality" with associated common behaviors including "victim blaming, sexual objectification, trivializing rape, denial of widespread rape, refusing to acknowledge the harm caused by some forms of sexual violence, or some combination of these." Throughout my college experience it seems like there has been a drastic increase in coverage by the media as more and more universities get caught covering up sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape. The reason behind the cover ups? One reason is that majority of these cases stem from student athletes and the athletic departments.

There have been suggestions of a correlation of college football home games and elevated sexual assaults on campus. Enter an economic professor from Texas A&M University, Jason Lindo, who wondered the same thing. With the help of his colleagues, the team analyzed 22 years of FBI data comparing reports of rape to law enforcement agencies on campus of Division 1 schools on days of home games to those of non game days. After factoring differences such as different times of year as well as days of the week, a strong link between home games and increased reports of rape of women aged 17-24.
