According to the article, What You Need To Know About Rape Culture by Maxwell Zerlina describes women to be passive with sexual assault against them and they try to be sexually attractive. In the article What You Need To Know About Rape Culture by Maxwell Zerlina says “Rape culture is a set of beliefs that encourages male sexual aggression.” Examples of men preforming “Rape Culture” are sexual assaults, violence, and trying to make the girl fall as victim to the man. Throughout the story Arnold Friend exhibits these actions. Arnold Friend does not perform any sexual assaults in the story. Although, the story is left on a “cliff hanger”, allowing the reader to interpret what happens. Most likely the reader will think that Arnold will then sexually assault Connie in his van. Arnold also does try to make Connie play victim to him. Multiple times Arnold tries to get Connie into his van using many techniques. Just like a boy spikes a girl’s drink to sexually assault them Arnold does the same thing by trying to get Connie into his van. Finally Arnold also almost commits violent actions to Connie.
