So let’s get some more information that will help us understand “The Ransom of Red Chief.” This story takes place south in Alabama, in a place called Summit, around the late 1960’s. The first character in this story is Sam. Sam is a leader, he goes and gets things done, like when he took the letter to “old Dorset.” “I walked over to Poplar Grove and sat around the post office and store”(Henry pg 76). Sam is also fair. The climax of this story is they receive a letter from the dad saying that they have to pay the dad $250 in cash for the return of his son Johnny. Evidence of this is they wanted to get rid of Johnny so they would take whatever they get. Some falling action events include: they take Johnny back. The resolution is they pay the dad and flee never to be seen again. These are important because if they didn’t pay the dad the story would change and make no sense. The main conflict in “The Ransom of Red Chief” is resolved because they take Johnny home and happily pay the dad the $250 dollars that they owed him. This story also has a good lesson to learn that will tell us what we should take away from reading “The Ransom of Red
