Sexism is being prejudice, stereotyping or discrimination because of gender. Women back a time ago could be seen as inferior to men and only useful for cleaning, reproduction, taking care of their children, sex and sometimes even seen as evil "Woman is the gate of the devil, the path of wickedness, the sting of the serpent, in a word a perilous object." (Aquinas). This quote it talking about women being seen as evil or leading men to evil, like Eve from the Bible comments the first sin and leads Adam to sin. Back in the 1800s sexism was open and a popularly trend, sexism can be seen in advertisements, jobs, and status. Advisements like ?Know your place? or ?So the harder a wife works the cuter she looks? are examples of sexism in ads from the 19 century time period. During this time as well there were some jobs women would be exclude from certain professions, like being doctors. There were also some labor laws against women working outside her home. Another thing women if married a man own his wife, the man had power over her action and decisions and his wishes come before hers, like if a man choose to send away his children his wife is legal defenseless against it. Men also in a divorce has legal rights over children and property. Now sexism isn?t really as bold as it used to be, like sexism can be something like being ejected lewd comments from men, along with sexually harassment. Then there?s how the media treats women, giving women the ideal that they have to be sexy, along with teaching boys to treat women like sex toys teaching them they have to have sex with many women to be cool. In the world we live in it?s shown as if women are free but in reality women are not they still make less than the males, we are shown as sex toys, weak, less than a man. Remember the like a girl campaign from always, and how we the teenage and adult women when asked to do it like a girl they did it in a weak and offensive way, example of this is being told to throw like a girl and doing a terrible throw. Women are not brave, not strong, weak, and have to be sexy, is what women are supposed to be because of society. Women have proven in many times that they can do just as much as man if not better, yet we?re not treated as man?s equal, how long will it take until women are equal to men, will we ever be equal to men? Next is racism, racism is the thought of all people of race have certain characteristics or abilities or that a race is superior or inferior because of race or discrimination on someone because of their race. It?s not certain when it started but it?s believed to become popular around the 13th and …show more content…
Racism now is a bit less direct, like in schools there are segregated by drawing lines around certain neighborhoods, or police unfair to certain races. Like looking at the number of students of a certain race you looking at Weldon, Halifax, and Roanoke Rapids, Roanoke Rapids is mostly white with Halifax and Weldon bring mostly black. And these black school are also the schools known to have the low test scores bad teachers and students who may be part of low income families. Kids at these schools like Weldon and Halifax are given the worst education especially compare to schools like Roanoke Rapids. Then you have jobs that have unequal pay like a black man is payed less than the white man. Race is something we can?t control, we can?t help the race we are yet we are discritmate for
