As previously discussed in other classes, there are multiple styles in which to operate a business from the lowest manager to the top of the food chain where the CEO and CFO sit. Just as many types of management styles there are an equal amount of business models to choose from. Now we all want to be successful and maintain steady profit margins as well as being able to retain employees then you need to do what some of the top companies do and follow their lead, after all flattery is the most sincere compliment right. Today we will talk about REI Outdoors, a company started as a co-op”…in 1938 wen Lloyd and Mary Anderson formed a cooperative to share outdoor gear with some of their mountain-climbing friends.”( Human behavior in organization Pg 37, Bethel University.) A little more history on the company is that originally it started as only 1 USD to join but after fast-forwarding 75 years it has become the largest consumer cooperative. REI is also one of 12 companies that has made Fortunes “100 Best Companies to Work For” especially after they have given their employees a YAYDAY, which we will get to hear about the impact that has on both the co op members, the employees and the possible new hires. …show more content…
Of such one is Black Friday but instead of being like most retailers they instead closed down for business and paid all their employees to take the day off and “ go outside”. These kinds of things are returns from corporate back to the employees that show appreciation for the hard work that they do as well as the work their families do to support them.
