System Description
The current system is a relatively simple business system which employs generic office applications. However, the employees of Quadco LLC do heavily rely on the reliability of their system. Therefore they require a fairly robust system to continue supporting oil field services and operations. The current issue with this type of system is that users tend to store critical documents on their workstations which are prone to mechanical failures resulting in loss of data. Additionally, the cost of constantly having to upgrade user workstations on a frequent basis is both inconvenient and expensive. Also users do not generally save backups of their work and creating entire workstation backups can be time consuming and unreliable.

The benefits to converting from workstations to thin clients outweigh the initial upgrade costs. In any major upgrade to computer systems you will always incur major upfront costs associated with procurement, deployment, testing, and configuration. However, the long term benefits are a increased sense of reliability and a higher guarantee of data security. Initially the organization will have to set aside expenditures for the new system and the required upgrades such as network and servers. If you factor in the budget required to pay for information technologists to maintain and upgrade out of date systems on a routine basis you will eventually recoup your initial investment. Information technology department has to set aside time and effort in specifying new systems and traveling to offsite locations to deploy them. Eliminating these unnecessary trips and efforts will increase the organizations bottom line. By limited what is actually process on the thin clients and pushing that off into the cloud, the opportunity to basically eliminate the individual software problems can be realized. If there are software issues with thin client software, the IT department can work on the server to fix most problems since that is where all the action is happening, instead of having to go from work station to work station to resolve these finicky types of problems. This also goes hand in hand with the hardware upkeep on work stations, instead, the move to netbooks allows for less moving parts which decreases the likelihood of fairs and cuts down on initial acquisition costs as well as future upgrades and
