This process requires close monitoring of oxygen and constant assessing. Weaning a patient from a ventilator can be a reward. A considerable number of factors take place in the weaning of the patient from the vent. The factors include, but are not limited to; can the patient tolerate breathing on his or her own without tracheostomy in place, do they have enough muscle strength to remove secretions f they are thick. The next step is to complete capping trials to see if the patient can maintain breathing on his or her own. During capping trials, the patient is closely monitored for work of breathing, oxygen tolerance, and carbon dioxide levels. Once capping trials are successful, and the trach tube is pulled out, the next phase of rehab starts with physical therapy, starting the patient with activities of daily living such as walking, eating, personal hygiene and exercise in order to help promote continuing
