I first learned of this disorder while reading an excerpt from a fictional book by Jennifer Niven. I researched the disorder, and after finding out that it was a real thing, did a short biology project on it. Once I had done the research I realized that the disorder was psychological, and thought why not research it for my essay. Throughout my research I learned a lot of interesting facts about prosopagnosia including, general facts about the disorder, how the disorder has been used and/or portrayed in popular culture, and a little bit about people who have this disorder and live with it …show more content…
I watched the movie Faces In The Crowd, and found that most of what they said about prosopagnosia was very accurate. The movie follows a woman, Anna, and her journey after being diagnosed with prosopagnosia. You see she has acquired prosopagnosia, because after witnessing a murder the killer attacked her and pushed her off a bridge. So the whole movie revolves around the fact that Anna is the only person who knows who the killer is, the problem, she can’t recognize him. In the movie when Anna looks at someone she should know, and then looks at them later they change their face. The movie makers replaced actors/actresses faces so that we, the viewer, could semi relate to Anna and her struggles. Near the middle of the movie Anna visits a doctor who specializes in face blindness, and she helps Anna to find ways to recognize those around her. Just like in my research the movie said to watch people’s gait, hair styles, even look for imperfections. In the end they find the killer, and Anna learns to come to terms with her face
