Similar to the LPR’s, the new Gun Detection Devices are also mounted onto police cars. These devices use terahertz-wave detection to find concealed weapons. The device picks up this natural radiation that emits from people and objects. If something blocks the flow of the terahertz, like a gun, then the device will make that object glow on-screen. This method can be used instead of a body search, and would lower the amounts of stops needed for stop and frisk purposes, allowing us to use officers in other needed areas, like community policing, which I think should be heavy invested in. Another controversial tool soon to be widely used are Drones. A drone is an unmanned flying aircraft, which is used for surveillance purposes. They can record video images, and produce heat maps, and there is talk about arming some of those used for national defense (Sengupta 2014) .
