I: Introduction / Overview
Proposed Enterprise-Wide Computing Solution
A small publishing company consisting of fifty employees located on a single floor with glass cubicles has many things to consider when contemplating the computing needs of its employees. The first question that would need to be addressed would be are employees going to work strictly in the office or will employees also be required to work remotely from home and customer locations. Answering this question will help us determine if we need desktop and laptop workstations or a combination of both. One possibility would be to provide managers and supervisors with laptops for on-site and remote access while providing desktop workstations for lower level employees that are required to work on-site.
II: PC Selection The necessary technical specifications for each required work station will vary slightly because employees will have different roles ranging from support staff to the publishing company’s graphic designers. In the business world it is ok to provide smaller hard drive space on each individual workstation according to Domingo, since employees will not be syncing devices like IPods or storing videos on the company owned computers (2015). The cost of hard drives has come down over the years, so hard drives ranging from 300 to 500 gigabytes are relatively inexpensive and will provide more than enough storage capacity for the average employee’s word documents and power point presentations.
