In the case of athletes it’s restoring them to good health. “The aim of the rehabilitation process is a two-fold focus; both physiological and psychological approaches are important for rehabilitation adherence and recovery” (Concannon...et al, 2012). In essence the physiological approach deals things that occur within the physical body; whereas, the psychological approach focuses on the mental aspect of a player. When going through the rehabilitation process if the body is healed but the mind is not then only a portion of the recovery process is done. The encouragement, support, understanding from other may help an athlete cope with injuries. “Social support is grouped into three major categories: (a) emotional support, (b) informational support, and (c) tangible support” (Williams, 2010). Emotional Support involves listening without being judgement, comforting and challenging behaviors that are negative. Informational Support could mean helping them to learning about the injury, acknowledging fears, and working on ways to improve the skills. Tangible support is maybe spending time, getting expertise advice, or even sharing knowledge to help with the goal he or she is trying to reach.
