PHASE ONE QUESTIONS/PHASE TWO QUESTIONS
Has a book ever changed your life? If so, which one and why?
I’m always reading but I’m one of those people that if I don’t read it again I’ll forget I read it in the first place. Sometimes I find myself reading books and just thinking, “Wait didn’t I read this already?” Two books that I always remember are Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby. Pride and Prejudiced changed my life because it changed some of my perspectives on writing. I used to only write poems and that’s it but after I read this book I started to explore other forms of writing and I’ve loved it ever since. There are so many way to analyze the story and examine the differing characters and this book taught me to enjoy just that. The Great Gatsby on the other hand touched me on a more existential level. It kind of got me thinking is this big dream we have in America a lie? Is the American Dream dead? I connect with Gatsby on the level of he did what he had to do to succeed but he went too far. If he would’ve

Why?

I don’t regret any friendships I’ve had because they have all led to lessons learned that I needed to become who I am. Everyone adds to your life no matter what. Even when they take away they give you something.
What is the angriest you 've ever been? When? Where? Why?
That’s a hard one because anger for me is in the moment and then I forget all about it. But I guess when I got into this fight with my friend in middle school. (Not a physical fight lol.) And then it kind of infected the rest of our group and everyone picked sides so we all just split into two groups. Then my friend and I made up but nothing was the same again. And no I really don’t remember why we were mad I just know that I was.

At what moment in your life thus far have you felt the most powerful? Describe the incident, recalling how it made you feel and

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a common piece in a student’s high school experience because a large majority of students read the book. This novel is the¬¬¬ mysterious story of the lust between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, narrated by a neighbor to Gatsby and cousin to Daisy, Nick Carraway, considered a classic among generations. Nearly all classics eventually become an overdone and painful-to-watch film version; therefore, The Great Gatsby is no exception. This rule stays true not just to the 1974 version, but again with a remake in 2013. Both film versions of The Great Gatsby were expensive cinematic productions, but the aura of the $10 novel is much better than the quality of the remakes.…

It all started back when I finally put down my first copy of Gatsby in the 10th grade. It was that last line that really assured me just how crazy about literature I really was: “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past.” I let the novel resonate in my mind and it was from that moment on that I felt a sense of hope and security in my passion. It shifted my perspective on overcoming the currents of life, and personally, the obstacles in my own life. Literature and my culture would be the origin of what has sculpted me into the person I am today.…

The downfall of the American Dream in Gatsby’s life is due to his own moral decline throughout the novel. This novel is still relevant and quoted to this day—although the era has changed, people 's views and values have not. The American Dream is an idea many people coming to America hope for—the fame, the riches, and the notoriety. However, what people may not realize is that there will always be a price to pay. For that, take into consideration Jay Gatsby, a foolish, dead man with a near-empty funeral solely because he chased his dream and it swallowed him whole as he lost sight of his true morals. Ask yourself: is The American Dream a dream worth…
