President Abraham Lincoln the sixteenth president of the United States, was elected in 1860. During his presidency, he had numerous attempts on his life, due to the citizen 's seeing him as a villain. Copperheads and Southern men tried infecting him (with small pox), kidnapping him, and offering a bounty on him. They finally succeeded on April 15, 1865 when President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at the theatre in Washington, D.C.1. When in power he worked towards the sustainment of the Union, He trumped over American 's rights, and suspended many during The Civil War. Contrary to popular belief, he was not a hero, he did not free the slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation was just a charter to free Southern slaves to punish the Confederates for attempting to break the Union2.
Beforehand, most southern civilians saw no crime in owning slaves, it went with the Bible which said slaves should "...Obey [their] earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ."3 To the Southern people, slaves were property, and no citizen could "...be deprived of life, liberty, or property..."4. Yet President Lincoln saw no crime in freeing only the South slaves, brought by Southern men, belonging to Southern men. The Southern slaves release was only meant to debilitate the Souths economy, and have the slaves travel up north where they could join the Unions military.
