Checks and Balances are when a branch checks the other branch when they do certain things. Such as the legislative branch checks the executive branch when the President does something that determines if they get impeached or not. The bill of rights also have something to do with the 12 most important amendments. Take these two examples. In the case of Westside Community School v Mergens, a student, Bridge Mergens, requested permission to create a Christian club, but the school rejected. That was said to be Unconstitutional because it violated the Equal Access Act. The school basically violated the first Amendment. The Court’s decision was that the Equal Access Act was not violated, but the student could have her club of religion. In the case of Ingraham v Wright, a student named James Ingraham was paddled by his Principle (Willie J. Wright), while being restrained by the assistant principal (Lemmie Deliford), and principal assistant (Solomon Barnes). He was hit 20 times and needed medical attention after that. The amendment that was being used was the eighth amendment and the fourteenth amendment. The court said that the eighth amendment was not being violated. The case was closed with the reason it only punish the student for an acceptable reasoning and it depends on the age of the student and the type of punishment.
