Poverty is a major issue, affecting millions in the United States alone. When an issue is at such a large scale as poverty, Our country must take a stand and figure out what the is causing such a tremendous problem. Before we tackle the problem of what is causing poverty we must understand what poverty is defined as. According to the Dictionary, poverty is defined as, the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor. (Halsey, 1)This doesn 't mean anyone that labels themselves as poor are in poverty, there is a specific poverty line which varies according to family size. A family of 4 must make less than 24,300 dollars annually to be consider in poverty. According to Poverty the majority of the time is caused by nature, an uncontrollable force. Poverty can be an effect of several different problems, as Délice Williams shows in her article “Top 5 Causes of Poverty” in this article she talks about five different causes of poverty that are, the history of a nation, war and political instability, national debt, social inequality, and natural disasters.
