Poetry has had an immense impact on our society today. Obviously there are some big names that have come up from poetry writings in our past. A lot of famous poems have popped up as well. Robert Browning was a name that really stood out. He is now one of the most important poets of the Victorian era. After not having much success in the beginning of his writing career, a spark was ignited at the death of his wife. This is when he began to write on a very intellectual level. He became extremely famous for his dramatic monologues, this is what many of his poems were portraying. His poetry was unconventional, his style was very unique compared to others. It was very much of a down-to-earth style rather than the normal poetic language. Two of the more notable poems that he wrote were My Last Duchess and Porphyria’s Lover. These were the poems that really tested the intellectual level of people, it made everyone begin to think on levels that they had never had to before. They were poems that you had to read not only once, but twice at the least because it would just blow your mind. At first you wouldn’t perceive some of the things he was hinting at the whole time and then it would just hit you. It happens in both of these poems as well. My Last Duchess and Porphyria’s Lover by Robert Browning have some differences and similarities within the poems.
