Prologue
Maya Angelou was a “phenomenal woman”. In fact, that is one of the titles of her poems. She has been awarded many awards that she deserves. She was a poet, playwright, singer, dancer, and actress. She has helped our world today in so many ways. She was also a civil rights activist. She has told our world what we are, and have been though her poems and books. Awe owe Maya Angelou a big thank you.

Marguerite Ann Johnson, also known as Maya Angelou was a stupendous poet, dancer, playwright, singer, actress, and civil rights activist. Maya Angelou has become famous because of her talents. She has contributed many great things to our world. Her book “I know why the caged bird sings”, made literary history. It was the first nonfiction best seller by an African-American woman. There she became an editor for the local newspaper. Soon after she moved with her son to Ghana. There she became an arts teacher at a university. In her free time she learned French, Italian, Spanish, Fanti (African Language), and Arabic. In 1964 Maya and her son moved back to the U.S. She began to focus critically on her writing. She began to write books, poems, plays, and songs. This is how she became famous and her work as a civil wrights activist. She worked with many famous African- Americans like: Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Maya wrote poems about her working within the civil rights. On January 20, 1993 Maya recited her poem “On the Pulse of Morning”. On May 28, 2014, Maya Passed away due to natural causes. This was a sad day for America.
