In this assignment, the student is asked to imagine that a dinosaur is living in their backyard and describe what that would be like. In this assignment, the student has creative freedom to select which kind of dinosaur the story is about and what their dinosaur likes to eat, play with, etc. An entire unit of fiction and non-fiction read-aloud lessons on dinosaurs prefaced this assignment. Kayson’s work seems really rushed and lacks planning and details. As the instructor, I would encourage Kayson to complete a brainstorming map before starting the written portion of a narrative. This would allow Kayson to think of many things to write about before starting his draft. I would also encourage Kayson to write more than one draft before turning in his final copy. I believe that adding additional steps to the process would improve the thoughtfulness in Kayson’s work as well as discourage him from rushing through his writing too
