Why do I, Mishayla Moffitt, want to pursue a career in healthcare? It all started when I was in preschool and finally beginning to understand how the world works and what my dad did for a job. My dad is so passionate and caring towards his patients and he never goes home till the last sick patient is seen for the day. My dad is a family physician and from the age of five, I had my heart set on being a great doctor just like him.…
It was my first day of training. UCSD Medical Center (or whatever the name is). First stop: Emergency Room. As I walked inside I saw doctors and nurses bustling about. To my left a resident was stitching up a bicyclist who had been in an accident.…
I personally have not had any direct interaction with the Kansas State Board of Nursing. During my senior year of high school I obtained my certified nursing assistant license, which I have only had to renew once. My current job at Overland Park Regional Medical Center does not enforce that I have to reinstate my license since I am currently in nursing school pursing my degree. With graduation coming up soon I am sure all of us will have communication with the BON (Board of Nursing) before we know it.…
Prior to my experience in the Columbia University Summer Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP), I simply wanted to “help people”. This broad and shallow reason for my pursuit of a medical degree has since been redefined. My pursuit of a medical degree is greatly strengthened by the Columbia University Summer Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP). During the SPHSP the program exposed us to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and my eyes were opened to unique way help people.…
My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…
Regent University was by far my favorite university I have visited. I was able to stay on campus for a weekend this past summer and experience what its like to be a regent. I stayed in a dorm with Elizabeth Landon. Elizabeth was a great representation of a Regent. She was a wonderful example of true christian leader and really showed how Christ is helping her change the world.…
My brother recently had surgery at the VA Hospital in Lexington, and once he thought he was himself again, he pushed to go home. The problem was that he had no one at home to care for him. His children live in California, and he couldn’t come with me because I was leaving for a week. I told him he had to stay in an extended care facility. He didn’t want to come to my house anyway; he wanted to go to his.…
For my assignment, I got to interview Dr. Rolf D. Morstead, MD, FAAPMR on February 17, 2018. He obtained his degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and is in practice for more than twenty years. He is board certified in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Dr. Morstead currently works as an independent practitioner for eighteen years in Monroe, LA. He is also affiliated with St. Francis Medical Center and Glenwood Regional Medical Center.…
Hi Brittany, I just graduated with my undergrad, but I am looking to continuing my education with ASU. As of right now I have open availability, but I can let you know once anything changes. Let me know if you need me. My contact number is (602) 748-5302 and Downtown is my campus.…
I come from a family if you don’t work hard at curtain age (18 and up) nothing is handed to you. So when it comes to being privilege I don’t have many privileges stories but I had one time to feel as though I was for an hour. Mercy College had limited tickets to a TED talks event.…
As I looked around at the blank white walls surrounding me, my anxiety only grew. Why am I here? The question haunted my mind as my solid white shoes tapped softly on the monotonously grey floors. My green eyes landed back on the paper in my hand, reading the words again. Patient 7539, please report to clinical area 3 for a checkup at 6:30am.…
Throughout my entire life, I have lived in a small suburban neighborhood located in Western Cranston. The memories that I have made in my community are irreplaceable. From hitting my first home run in Little League baseball to winning the Boys Volleyball State Championship at my high school, Cranston has immersed with a multitude of peak experiences. The friendships, relationships, and memories have molded me into the person I am today. Brown University will allow me to create even more amazing memories in Rhode Island: the ocean state, and a place that I have called home for over 17 years.…
When I get out of the airport after a long travel. I stopped. Looked. And listened. New environment, new people, new language and a new beginning for me.…
My clinical experience so far has been quite interesting, because I learned basic clinical procedures and preventions that I know will benefit me as a nurse in the near future. During lab, we discussed infection control, personal hygiene, and isolation precautions. These procedures impact my personal health and wellness, because I need to ensure that I am using the proper techniques in order to keep me safe. Also, I know that it is important to make sure my patients are not at risk of developing hospital associated infections.…
I have known from a young age that I wanted to do something exceptional in my life. Something about helping others drew me in, so I knew a career in the medical field would be my best fit. It was not until a traumatic day in my life occurred that made me realize I was bound to be a nurse. I have played volleyball for five year, my senior year was not an exception. Volleyball was the only sport I played and my passion.…
