Personal Narrative: My Love Of Reading

Children have been taught how to read for generations, we all have different reading levels based on how much interest we have in reading, and who taught us to read and gave us our passion for it. For me, my love of reading started when I was younger reading with my mother after school, on the weekends and any other free time we had. Every day, when I came home from school I read whether it was by myself or with my mom. She would read with me every day until I finally learned how and could read by myself. Because of my mom reading to me and with me, my reading level has often been higher than others in my classes. My mom is the reason I love reading today because, she read with me until I could read on my own, she encouraged me to read, and she bought me books to ignite my learning. …show more content…
We would read books such as Junie B. Jones, Dr. Seuss, and animal books. According to my mom “When you were younger you loved reading, you’d beg to read every day.” This is true, I remember my little 6-year-old self sneaking after my bed time and reading books, I remember the rush of breaking the rules and praying not to get caught. I’ve always done well in school and had a passion for reading, now that I’m older it’s a little more difficult for me to find books that have me wanting to stay up half the night and find out what happens next. Also, I don’t have as much time as I used too, I stay up doing homework and studying. Without my mom constantly reading with me and helping me, I probably wouldn’t have any passion for

Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

I don’t like to read, I only like to read books that I have to read if its work related, or for school. Growing up as a child my family did not read to. When I become older I had to do a lot of reading on my own. Like reading magazines, books, and the newspaper to be informative about things that I needed to know to be educated about in life. I don’t have any children at this moment but I hope to have children one day.…

By adding up the amount of pages that I read and dividing it by eighteen my answer is 75 pages per week. I saw an improvement in my reading because the number of pages I read in a week had increased. I am quite satisfied and this motivates me to read more. I want to tighten up my gear and raise it to at least 100 pages per week in order to achieve my wish. Usually I would have read books that are around 100 to 200 pages, but this time it is longer than usual.…

Because of this, reading with my mother turned into the most frustrating, yet satisfying learning experience of my early childhood. I would gleefully sit beside my mother on the couch, hand her my favorite book, and beg, “Just another chapter, please!” And, as a loving and encouraging parent, she would happily oblige and fulfill my wish. Attentively listening, my eyes would follow her finger, hoping that something would click in my head. As we read, she would prod me to study and sound out the words on my own so that I would become familiar with the rules of grammar.…

Despite the fact that my mom didn’t enjoy reading she was the one to motivate me to learn to read. Reading wasn’t considered a hobby or something you do leisurely where I grew up as a kid. Kids, teens, and adults in my community never really read. They didn’t sit down with their children and read to them fairy tales and adults didn’t use their day’s off to consume themselves into books “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou. Instead, they consumed themselves…

As I got older nothing really changed except that I read harder books and read more. The question I have always asked myself was what made me love reading so much. Why did I read instead of go play outside? Well, one day while talking to my mother I asked her those very questions to see if she could give me some insight. My mother told me that I had always loved to read but there was a specific reason I loved it so much.…

When I was a child, I loved reading so much that I would read anything I passed by. No warning sign, instructions, or map directions were left unread. My mother would buy books for me whenever she went to a store. My Aunt Kate gave me a collection of The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley books when I was in middle school. No library could compare to my Dollar General and hand-me-down book collection.…

Sometimes a Struggle; Always a Blessing Highs, lows, and mediocres are all different stages we repetitively experience throughout our lives. Experiences throughout life are what shape us into the people we are currently. Similarly to this concept is the evolution of my literary background. There has been the highs at which I accomplish a goal I’ve been working for, but also the lows at which I am struggling to grasp onto a new concept that is being introduced to me. Comparing my literary background to this idea of an evolution seems to be fitting since all those stages and those experiences have molded together to create the literate person that I am currently.…

In my family it is almost required that we have a love for reading and learning, this trait definitely didn’t skip over me. As soon as I learned how to read it became enjoyable and it’s what I wanted to do. In elementary school we would all have to take a test that assessed our “reading ability”, and every time my results were that I was at a “high school or above reading level” so from there I read chapter book after chapter book. Here is where one of my favorite teachers comes in, she was my third grade teacher Mrs. Taylor. Mrs. Taylor really encouraged my reading, she would always recommend great books to me such as “The Tail of Despereaux”, and the “Gregor the Overlander” series.…
