Reading has always been a part of my life. Starting from a young child all the way up to where I am now I can remember many different ways reading has impacted my life. Well, one day while talking to my mother I asked her those very questions to see if she could give me some insight. My mother told me that I had always loved to read but there was a specific reason I loved it so much. As a child I hated when people fought or were angry with me or someone else, so I needed something to help me get away from those situations. My something else was going into another room and reading. Reading has always been an escape mechanism for me. I used to run to another room and sit down with a book when I was upset. This helped me escape into another world and get away from whatever was …show more content…
This trip helped me expand my knowledge in other areas like history and science while I also had lots of fun. Chicago was not the only trip though and definitely not my favorite. As I got older my grades stayed well above average and I was invited to take a trip overseas as a student ambassador. On this trip I went to Italy, Sicily and Greece. While I was there I learned all about their culture and their history, which has continued to help me in my schooling. These trips would not have been possible had I not been an excelled student and being a lover of reading got me to that

I went to the Galapagos Islands and learned so much from my two week period of being there. I got to see amazing animals and meet very interesting people that I would have never encountered if I never would have ventured outside of my small home town Mooresville North Carolina. Seeing something in real life instead of a book or movie is a real eye opener. Many people do not get to see new cultures because of money or just have no interest in seeing new things. Literacy History Essay I became the literate person i am today by mostly writing, I write all the time and I do a little reading. What made me love writing was the fact I found an escape, not on an emotional level but writting is something to help ease in my opinion. I influenced writing myself, even though it’s something done in school a lot, I continued it outside of school as a choice of my own, once I started I never stopped. I have a different viewpoint on reading as I do writting, reading is not that bad but it can get boring. What made me feel different about reading from writting is probably the fact reading just takes time, like when you write, you write any and everytthing however you want.…

Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Being able to see and interact with people in these socio-cultural differences made a big difference in how I felt about different situations and life in general. When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…

Orange, yellow, red, covered leaves in various shades floating gracefully with every step I took walking to my Grandmother’s house. I always enjoyed stepping foot into her home every time I opened the door I would be welcomed by a warm blanket of air that surrounded me in the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked sweets. Grandmother kept a tiny wooden bookshelf filled with various fairytale stories in the corner of her living room just for me. Since I could not yet read I would climb on to my grandmother’s warm lap like a faithful routine and hand her the book I wanted to listen to the most. Her softhearted voice read fairy tales to me until my young heart was content.…
